Hello, my name is George Papadakis (aka phaistonian) and this is my humble blog (RSS feed)

Safari Currency Converter

I kept on finding myself constantly converting from dollars and pounds (mostly) to euros when visiting e-commerce sites (e.g Amazon, ebay).

This seemed like a stupid thing to do, so, as with all stupid things, a solution had to be found.

A quick n' dirty one was delivered within minutes as a bookmarklet named toEuro.

What this bookmarklet does is rather simple; Click to instantly convert all prices in a page to euros based on the current rate.

Ugly code, still it's quick cross-browser solution you can find here.

Then, I thought I could extend this experiment to something better and configurable.

That's when CCC (Chrome Currency Converter) was born.

You can check what CCC is about here.

Now, since some of us (at work) are Mac-maniacs -  and I am rapidly turning into one too - it was obvious we could use a CCC for Safari.

So today, me and friend & colleague George (aka nuc) ported an alpha version of the extension to Safari, called - you guessed correctly - Safari Currency Converter.

Though a lot are missing (in terms of options basically), a functional - but alpha - version is here in case you want it.

Enjoy.

ps1: My lack of skills when it comes to naming stuff is obvious.
